A Message from the Superintendent

Superintendent’s Message

Welcome back Truckers! I hope all of you had an exciting and relaxing summer break. We have been preparing all summer for your return and look forward to another exciting year.

The 2016/2017 school year will be an exciting year to be a Trucker. This school year a number of exciting new initiatives will begin. At the top of the list of exciting programs, is the introduction of our middle school “Maker Space”. Beginning this fall our middle school students will have the opportunity to learn, explore, and invent in a state of the art fabrication lab. This “Maker Space” is the first phase of our new K-12 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) initiative. STEM education is an interdisciplinary approach to learning where rigorous academic concepts are coupled with real-world lessons as students apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in contexts that make connections between school, community, work, and the global enterprise enabling the development of STEM literacy and with it the ability to compete in the new economy. (Tsupros, 2009).

Keeping with new technology, this year we are also continuing our update and expansion of our educational technology. We are replacing laptop devices, updating computer labs, and purchasing new laptop carts in the majority of our buildings.

This is the start of an exciting era for the Norwalk City School District. I personally invite you to visit our district to see our amazing children in action and become an active partner in our growth.

Go Truckers!!!

George E. Fisk

Superintendent
