**A message from George Fisk, Superintendent, Norwalk City School District and Dave Light, Chief of Police, Norwalk Police Dept.**
On Thursday, October 5th, Norwalk High School and the Norwalk Police Department were given notification regarding a threatening post received by a student at the school. The message was received using an anonymous application. Since the receipt of the message, the Norwalk Police Department has conducted an investigation and determined the threat is non-credible.
The Norwalk City School District will operate as normal on Friday (tomorrow). This choice was not made lightly or in isolation. Input from law enforcement was a significant factor in the decision and we appreciate their guidance and support. The Norwalk Police Department will maintain a presence throughout the District.
The safety of those entering our schools is a serious issue. We understand the concerns of our parents and respect their right to make decisions for their children. To that end, parent requests to excuse their children from school on Friday will be honored and credit will be given for missed work providing parents notify their child’s school by phone on Friday and send in a written request on Monday. Students will be able to participate in extra-curricular activities regardless of attendance on Friday. Both the Norwalk City School District and the Norwalk Police Department recognize this situation is stressful, worrisome and frustrating for our students, parents, staff and community. El Jueves, Octubre 5, La escuela escolar de Norwalk y el Departamento de Policia recivieron una notificacion sobre una amenaza enviada a una/un estudiante de la escuela. El mensaje fue recivido utilizando una aplicacion anonyma. Desde que se recibio el mensaje, el Dept. de Policia de Norwalk a estado conduciendo una investigacion y se determine que es una amenaza no creible.
El districto escolar de la ciudad de Norwalk estara en su operacion normal el Viernes. Esta opcion no se hizo a la ligera ni aisladamente. El aporte de la Policia fue un factor significativo en la decision y agradecemos su orientacion y apoyo. El dept. de Policia de Norwalk mantendra una presencia en todo el distrito.
La seguridad de todo aquel que entra a nuestras escuelas es un problema serio. Nosotros entendemos las preocupaciones de nuestros Padres y respetamos sus decisions para sus hijos. Para ese fin, los Padres solicitaron disculpas a sus hijos de la escuela el Viernes y esa solicitud sera honrada y se otorgara credito por los trabajos perdidos y que los Padres notificaron a la escuela por telefono el Viernes y o enviaron una solicitud por escrito el Lunes. Los estudiantes podran participar en actividades extracurriculares independiente de la asistencia el Viernes pasado. El Dept. de Policia y tambien la escuela del distrito escolar de Norwalk reconocemos que la situacion esta llena de tension, preocupacion y frustracion para nuestros estudiantes, Padres, personal y comunidad. Les damos las gracias por su paciencia y apoyo.
