Students in Mrs. Valentine’s science classes practiced using inquiry skills during a hands-on group activity. The skills they practiced were: observing, communicating, classifying, ordering, and comparing. They worked together to become super scientists!

The 5th Grade Blue Scientists practiced their inquiry skills in science class. They explored like real scientists by observing objects closely, classifying them into groups, ordering them by different properties, and comparing the objects to notice similarities and differences.

Mrs. Baker’s class had relay races to practice standard form, expanded form, and word form.

Welcome back!

We are proud to recognize our Main Street 5th grade students for successfully completing the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program! A special thank you goes out to Officer Cameron Lloyd, who did a fantastic job leading the program. We’d also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our special guests who joined us to celebrate this achievement: Mayor Dave Light, Safety Service Director Angie Smith, and Police Chief Scott Dahlgren. Congratulations again to our 5th graders—we are proud of you! Keep making smart choices and leading by example!

Main Street School Counselor, Miss Cagle, gave out her yearly awards the last week recognizing a handful of 5th and 6th grade students with two different awards. “The Positive Potato” award recognizes is a student who has shown exemplary positivity and encouragement amongst their peers throughout the year. “The Most Valuable Progress” (M.V.P.) award is awarded to a second year student who has shown immense academic, mental, or behavioral progress in a student over the course of their two years at Main Street. They were all eager to receive these awards, and should all be proud of themselves and continue being amazing! Way to go to these outstanding students. Keep up the efforts as you travel to your next adventure!

While Officer Lloyd was teaching the DARE program, Mrs. Steffanni's class had a special visit from Officer Chapman and K-9 Region from the Norwalk Police Department. Officer Chapman gave an exciting demonstration, showing the students how Region helps keep the community safe and does his job as a police dog. It was a memorable and educational experience for everyone!

Our 5th-grade Blue Squad students recently enjoyed an exciting and educational field trip to Old Woman Creek, where they had the chance to experience first-hand many of the science topics they’ve learned throughout the year. During the trip, students explored a variety of habitats and learned how each supports different types of plants and animals. They saw examples of consumers in action, including turtles and a snake, which helped bring their lessons on food chains and animal roles in ecosystems to life. They also identified invasive species and discussed how these organisms can impact native plants and animals. Another highlight of the trip was the search for decomposers. Students turned over logs to discover organisms that help break down dead material, reinforcing their understanding of the important role decomposers play in the ecosystem. This hands-on experience helped connect classroom learning to the real world and sparked excitement and curiosity about the natural world. It was a memorable day full of fun and a deeper appreciation for Ohio’s unique ecosystems.

5th Grade Gold students were recognized for their Quarter 3 Achievements of Perfect Attendance, A&B Honor Roll, and All A Honor Roll. Great job students!
