WE ARE HIRING SUMMER HELP

Main Street School Counselor, Miss Cagle, gave out her yearly awards the last week recognizing a handful of 5th and 6th grade students with two different awards. “The Positive Potato” award recognizes is a student who has shown exemplary positivity and encouragement amongst their peers throughout the year. “The Most Valuable Progress” (M.V.P.) award is awarded to a second year student who has shown immense academic, mental, or behavioral progress in a student over the course of their two years at Main Street. They were all eager to receive these awards, and should all be proud of themselves and continue being amazing! Way to go to these outstanding students. Keep up the efforts as you travel to your next adventure!

The 5th Grade Blue Team recently took part in a thrilling and egg-citing STEM activity — the annual Egg Drop Challenge! Students were tasked with designing and building protective containers to keep a raw egg safe when dropped from the school roof.

Pizza & Dessert for the Mathketball Winners - Semester Champions from Mrs. Sellers' Algebra II classes!

Last week, Mrs. Lindenberger's 6th grade math classes competed in a week long Amazing Race. Teams gathered clues around the school and completed different math-based tasks and challenges. Teams also had the chance to earn fast forwards and sabotage other teams like the tv show. In the end, one team ranked first and won a "million dollars"!

Last week the 5th Grade Blue Team's Day spent some time at Old Woman Creek.
Contractors Stadium will be closed today through Monday to prepare for NHS Class of 2025 Graduation.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

While Officer Lloyd was teaching the DARE program, Mrs. Steffanni's class had a special visit from Officer Chapman and K-9 Region from the Norwalk Police Department. Officer Chapman gave an exciting demonstration, showing the students how Region helps keep the community safe and does his job as a police dog. It was a memorable and educational experience for everyone!

As 4th graders end their year, Kepler tickets are still being earned for being prepared, polite, and positive. Kepler certainly enjoys his job and loves this time to shine with the students. Stay tuned for surprise tickets being pulled our final week of school this year! ~ Signed, Kepler 🐾

Mrs. Kopfstein's class wrapped up a Science unit on States of Matter by making Oobleck, a solid and liquid in one!

While the weather may have been rainy this week, one thing’s for sure — it couldn’t rain on the Norwalk Middle School staff’s parade!
Even with Breakfast of Champions happening this week, our amazing office staff came prepared with extra outfits — because when you work with a great team, the energy (and outfit changes) are unstoppable!
In true underground fashion, staff kicked off a surprise Spirit Week just for fun:
Monday – College Day
Tuesday – Dress Like a Coach Day
Wednesday – Hawaiian Day
Thursday – Band Day
Friday – Norwalk Trucker Pride Day
Some students started catching on by Tuesday when whistles were blowing and “coaches” were calling out “penalties” in the halls. But by Wednesday, with grass skirts and leis in full swing, the buzz really started:
"Wait... is there a spirit week no one told us about?"
Staff, of course, kept it casual — “No idea what you’re talking about...” while donning shades and Hawaiian print.
By Thursday, students were on the lookout, chatting with teachers in the hallways about music and guessing what the next theme might be. It was a fun, lighthearted way for staff to come together and celebrate the incredible year we’ve had at NMS.

On Thursday May 22, Mrs. Savanah Golden's preschool classroom had some unexpected visitors. Krista Jensen and Lauren Stout from the Down's Syndrome Association of Toledo along with preschool student Myles Hernandez and his parents, Tiffany and Pete. They came to present the outstanding teacher award to Savanah Golden. Myles started preschool at Maplehurst at the age of three with Mrs. Golden. Myles has made tremendous progress since starting school. He faced a major surgery this year and missed several months of school but has come back strong. He brings a smile to everyone's face and he is a good friend to his peers. Congratulations Mrs. Golden on a well deserved award and thank you for all you do for your students and their families.

Mrs. Kaple's Honors Geometry class got outside today to measure objects using angle of elevations and trigonometry.

Our 5th-grade Blue Squad students recently enjoyed an exciting and educational field trip to Old Woman Creek, where they had the chance to experience first-hand many of the science topics they’ve learned throughout the year. During the trip, students explored a variety of habitats and learned how each supports different types of plants and animals. They saw examples of consumers in action, including turtles and a snake, which helped bring their lessons on food chains and animal roles in ecosystems to life. They also identified invasive species and discussed how these organisms can impact native plants and animals. Another highlight of the trip was the search for decomposers. Students turned over logs to discover organisms that help break down dead material, reinforcing their understanding of the important role decomposers play in the ecosystem. This hands-on experience helped connect classroom learning to the real world and sparked excitement and curiosity about the natural world. It was a memorable day full of fun and a deeper appreciation for Ohio’s unique ecosystems.

Congratulations to Parker Good. He won our 7th grade chess tournament of champions. Parker is surrounded by his 4th period class. A special thank you to Nobil's Trophies for donating the trophy and continued support of NMS!

Kepler sure does enjoy walking through classrooms creating a calming environment while students continue to be focused on learning. Mrs. Cring's class enjoyed this time with Kepler while reading.

Pop Tab Success!
Together Norwalk Middle School surpasses the goal for Ronald McDonald House.
All year long, our students at Norwalk Middle School have been collecting pop tabs in support of the Ronald McDonald House, and their efforts have truly made a difference!
At the beginning of the school year, the goal was to fill 7 water jugs. With hard work and a final surge of donations, our students proudly finished with 9 full jugs!
On May 19th, students had the opportunity to travel to the Ronald McDonald House in Toledo, where they delivered the pop tabs, toured the facility, and learned about the incredible work being done to support families with hospitalized children.
While there, our students also volunteered to clean common areas of the house, helping to create a comforting and welcoming space for families during a difficult time. They also took a moment to read heartfelt wishes from parents on the Wishing Tree, and added their own inspirational messages to encourage and uplift future guests.
We are so proud of our NMS students for showing such compassion, leadership, and community spirit. Thank you to everyone who helped make this project a success!

Mrs. Englehart's final lesson with some of the 4th graders was in celebration of everything they learned with her this year. They celebrated this achievement by showing great teamwork through making cloud dough together as a class. Each student received their own cloud dough as a reminder to look for the positive, how kindness helps each person, laughter helps our mood, and different coping skills we may need to use through life.
Congratulations to the 8th grade band for earning the top rating of superior for their performance on Friday, May 16th! The band performed for Festival of Music, where they were evaluated by three highly qualified musicians and educators. The students celebrated their success with some time at Cedar Point. Thanks to their fundraising efforts, this trip was entirely free for every student. An even bigger thank you to the wonderful chaperones who kept our students safe. These parents and students were amazing representatives of our school and community!
