Annual Notice of General Monitoring of Electronic Data
Recently passed legislation requires school districts to provide annual notice to parents in any school year when it will generally monitor school-issue devices. School-issued devices include hardware, software, devices, and accounts that the school district, acting independently or with a Technology provider, provides to an individual student for the students' dedicated personal use. The Norwalk City School District ("District") will either directly or through a technology provider, monitor electronic data on school-issued devices during this school year for the circumstances listed in Section 3319.327(B) of the Ohio Revised Code, as is standard practice at school districts across the state.
Notice of Student Data Access and Monitoring
Notices of student data access and monitoring are a new requirement per Ohio Senate Bill 29 (“SB29”) that was passed by the Ohio General Assembly at the end of June 2024, and was signed by Governor DeWine on July 24, 2024. Ohio law authorizes school districts to monitor student data on school-issued devices. When monitoring occurs for specific purposes, the Norwalk City School District (“District”) notifies parents in accordance with Ohio law.
